Greetings from the Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Christa Thoben
Dear Sir or Madam,

In this digital age of “e-Commerce”, customers expect speedy business, whether it is an insurance claim settlement, ordering over the Internet, or filing a bank account application. Waiting time encourages switching to another provider, who as you know, is only a mouse click away. Companies know that it is more expensive to gain new customers than it is to retain existing ones – so they adjust their business processes accordingly. Instead of dispatching paper applications through several departments, they simultaneously, digitally forward them to several case handlers. Rather than looking through files for policies, notifications of claims, or orders, the Call Center has access to all documents via the PC, and can answer questions directly over the phone. That is customer service, and it pays dividends.

In order to offer this service, companies are using “Digital Management Solutions”. They benefit from the archiving of commercial documents that conforms to the law, lower administrative costs, and leaner processes. Workers can concentrate on the nitty-gritty – namely the customer – and not waste time with annoying searches through meter-long shelves.

In modern public administration, as well, Digital Management Solutions are making a major contribution to improving customer service for citizens, and are easing the burden on administrations thanks to leaner administrative processes. In addition, DMS systems can make a significant contribution to the successful implementation of the EU service directive in our cities and communities, which will come into effect in 2010.

With around 400 exhibiting companies, the DMS EXPO is the world’s largest exhibition of its kind for the electronic administration of documents and information. It is taking place in Cologne for the third time this year.  The success of the past trade fairs shows: Companies – in particular, mid-sized companies – and public establishments alike have recognized that they profit from Digital Management Solutions.

Take advantage of the dialog with exhibitors, and the parallel conference program with specialty lectures, user presentations, and discussion rounds.

I wish the DMS 2008 continued success along this path!
