DMS EXPO and IT & Business build new trade fair duo

Koelnmesse and Messe Stuttgart merge IT trade fairs

July 2010

Cooperation creates important platform for IT decision markers in autumn

At the beginning of July, Koelnmesse and Messe Stuttgart agreed on bundling their competences regarding the IT trade fairs sector to a powerful event bond in autumn. In future, Digital Management Solution Expo (DMS EXPO), Europe’s leading trade fair for Enterprise Content and Document Management will take place in Stuttgart parallel to IT & Business – this year from 26th to 28th October. Thus, the two trade fair organisers are meeting the wish of many market actors to establish a broadly positioned platform for IT decision makers in autumn as well as to use multidisciplinary synergies. On the basis of a long-term cooperation Messe Stuttgart will be the organiser of IT & Business as well as DMS EXPO, whilst Koelnmesse will support them as co-organiser of both trade fairs. Thanks to this close connection, long-time experience and existing networks can be kept up and further benefited from.

“In the operational day-to-day business, the software applications are more and more growing together”, says Oliver P. Kuhrt, Executive Vice President of Koelnmesse. “From our conversations with many market participants, suppliers as well as users, we have learnt about their wish to show this proximity through the creation of a central, multidisciplinary event bond.  This bond offers numerous advantages to exhibitors and visitors and enables a high public perception of the event and the IT industry in general.”

“In future, DMS EXPO will take place annually as independent event parallel to IT & Business, trade fair for software, infrastructure and IT Services, and offer many synergetic effects to exhibitors and trade visitors”, says Ulrich Kromer, CEO of Messe Stuttgart. “With this cooperation, we made a big step forward to reach to our medium-term goal of bringing together 750 to 1,000 exhibitors and 20,000 to 25,000 visitors.”

The leading industries’ associations and powerful partners of IT & Business are also welcoming the merger of the events and see considerable advantages for exhibitors as well as visitors:

Dr. Bernhard Rohleder, CEO of BITKOM: “We are welcoming the cooperation of Koelnmesse and Messe Stuttgart. In Germany, there are too many little technology trade fairs and not enough cooperation between the trade fair locations. Cologne and Stuttgart are setting a counterpoint with their trade fair bond and can trust on our full support in this matter. In spring-time, CeBIT in Hanover, as leading trade fair world wide, still has an extraordinary local value for BITKOM. Additionally, we need such initiatives to tauten the trade fair market as well as attractive trade congresses with accompanying exhibition programme as ConLife in Cologne.”

Rainer Glatz, CEO of the Trade Association Software in VDMA:  "In the good sense of our members, suppliers as well as users, we have followed the aim of bringing forward a consolidation of the IT trade fair market from the very beginning. Running IT & Business and DMS EXPO at the same time in Stuttgart is an important step to reach goal strived for.”

The evident advantages of this cooperation are obvious: Both IT trade fairs address commercial decision makers and IT responsibles in the companies and organisations. To more than 40% of the IT & Business visitors 2009, the topic DMS is of high interest. Conversely, the visitors of DMS EXPO 2009 have expressed high interest when it comes to many topic fields of IT & Business, as e. g. Customer Relationship Management (40 percent) or Enterprise Resource Planning (28 percent). Thus, the trade visitors have the chance to visit two IT events with a wider and broader range of products under the same trade fair roof and to exchange ideas in the congress programme on a top-class level. The exhibitors from Germany and abroad will meet more decision makers in October and will thus also benefit from the cooperation. The responsibles and industry experts estimate the advantages resulting from the trade fair combination to be strong enough to make already near-term use of the synergies in 2010.

Europe’s most modern trade fair grounds will offer a unique infrastructure and ideal basic condition to the latter: Short distances on grounds of Messe Stuttgart are connecting DMS Expo, taking place in hall 7, and IT & Business, opening its doors in halls 3 and 5. Specialist forums integrated in the halls, reflecting a clear and benefit-oriented event conception, will be the characteristic of both events. The transport connection of the fair grounds in Stuttgart also is outstanding. For example, the direct drive-ups and exits from the German freeway A8 to the Bosch car park over the freeway, shortening the access to the trade fair a little, as well as the direct proximity to Stuttgart Airport, being located only 200 meters from the trade fair entrance and offering flight connections to 130 destinations. The train connects Cologne and Stuttgart in 2 hours and 14 minutes with trains scheduled in short intervals.

The trade visitors can visit DMS EXPO and IT & Business with one admission ticket on all three days.
